2022 Kia Carnival earns Top Safety Pick award
The 2022 Carnival qualifies for Top Safety Pick when equipped with good-rated headlights.

That's odd. Why would reflector style housings not be sufficient? Isn't the amount of light projected onto the road a federal standard? The Carnival falls short of qualifying for the higher-tier award because its base headlights earn a poor rating due to inadequate illumination.
If you look at the IHHS report in detail it shows that the projector style headlamps are indeed quite a bit shorter in range compared the LED ones on the SXP. That's why they didn't get the highest rating compared to the federal standard. That's odd. Why would reflector style housings not be sufficient? I'll check it out. I knew projectors were better than reflector housings, but the summary made it sound like the reflectors were wholly deficient. I assumed they had to meet at least some minimum federal standard to even be allowed on the road.If you look at the IHHS report in detail it shows that the projector style headlamps are indeed quite a bit shorter in range compared the LED ones on the SXP. Now you got me thinking... can the SX reflector headlight housings be swapped with the SXP projector housings? I assume they have the same housing size/shape and mounting lugs, but I'm curious if the electrical harnesses can be swapped easily too since you likely cannot use the same LED element in the reflectors as is used in the projectors - unless Kia thought of that early enough in design to use a common LED to save cost. Here's what they were complaining about.
