I have had my Carnival for about one year (13k miles) and recently Android Auto (AA) started randomly disconnecting. I use AA every time I am in the car for Maps, audiobooks, music, etc. so it is very obvious when it cuts out. Originally I suspected it was the cable (because I know they can be finicky) but I have tried 3-4 different cables and all with the same result. I am also pretty sure the two other USB port in the center console are also having issues as I tried plugging in my phone to one of those and it randomly make the "connecting to a charger sound." I have not tried any of the other USB ports in the 2nd or 3rd rows it see if they are also having an issue. Sometimes I can drive for 30 minutes with AA running and have no issues and other times it disconnects and reconnects every 30 seconds. I think I need to take it to the dealer to repair. Has anyone else had this issue?

Strange. I had this happened to me the first 12k miles. It was constantly on and off and was frustrating. But then in recent months, it has worked flawlessly. I plug in the phone and within 10 seconds, it's available.

I've found that the usb port on your phone is more likely to loosen over time. Just the slightest wiggle will disconnect AA. That's why I switched to a wireless AA dongle and haven't had a random disconnect since.

The same thing happens when we use my wife's phone, so at least in this case I don't think it is the port on the phone. I have also tried gosling the cable to see if I can trigger it to lose connection but it never does. Unfortunately, am pretty sure it is an issue with the car itself.

Are you connected to another Bluetooth device to your phone at the same time? A smartwatch or another Bluetooth earbuds?

I have connected via this USB extension cable which has a switch and it enables me to reconnect AA while driving just by a flick of the switch. It also keeps the port in the car from loosening.

Good question, but no, my phone does not have any other connections (such as Bluetooth). The thing that really makes me think think issue is the car and not my phone or cable is the USB port to the right and left of the one for AA seem to glitch too and lose power for a second before automatically reactivating. However, it seems no one else is having this issue so I assume it is isolated, which is good.

Good luck replicating that for your dealer to diagnose.

I know right. That is the part I am dreading. It does happen every drive though but I can make it happen on command. You gave me an idea, I will have my wife video it next time we are driving together, then I will at least have some evidence.

I JUST recently had problems with my AA. It wasn't always allowing Google Maps to work. For me it turned out to be a setting on my phone. My recommendation is to make sure AA is updated. Then make sure all of the apps have been given permission to allow notifications. Unpair your phone from the car and then reconnect it. See if that helps. It's more than likely a setting on your phone. ood luck!

I was having the same problem as you. It was the same problem I had on my Sedona. After having the dealer look at it, they said they noticed I was using an off brand cable and that I should be using a Samsung cable. They asked me to try it and if that did not work, to bring it back and they would look into the issue further. It sounded absolutely ridiculous to me as I used the same off brand cable in my wife's Genesis and NEVER had a disconnect issue. In the 6 months since I purchased a Samsung cable to use with my Samsung phone, there have only been two times where it disconnected and immediately after unplugging and then plugging back in, the connection was stable. I was stunned that it actually worked.

Yes, I have tried three different cables, at least two of those were Samsung ones that came with our phones. I am going to try Carplay with my daughter's iPhone. If that has the same problem it should put to rest if it was an android software or a USB-C cable issue and prove it is a Kia hardware problem.

I tried my daughter's iPhone last night and Carplay keep disconnecting and reconnecting, just like the AA does. So, that is 3 different phones (Android and iOS), 4 or 5 different cables, and the same result every time. It happens so frequently that I will have no problem reproducing it for the dealer for a warranty claim, but the question now is how long will it take to get an appointment and repair.

Hi. I have a Kia Sportage and I have the same issue. I've seen a lot of post reporting this issue. In my case I tried several phones and cables, the dealer already updated the software and changed the Silver Box, nothing worked. Now I'm waiting for an USB port replacement. UNfortunately this is a common issue in kia and they have no clue how to fix it.

I have an appointment at the dealership in a few weeks. Hopefully they can get it fixed because I use Android Auto every time I drive and this glitch makes it impossible. I will update this post after my appointment. I am happy to see no other Carnival owners have had this issue but you make it sound like it is common with Kia.

UPDATE: I dropped my Carnival off at Kia for a warranty repair. When I dropped it off I also gave them 3 videos of the system glitching so that they could see it, in the event it was acting normal when the technician looked at it. Kia called me at the end of the day and said my car was ready to for pickup. I asked them if they fixed the problem. They said, no, it did not do it for the technician (typical). I told them that is why I have the the videos (that they had not watched), and to keep the car overnight and take it to lunch tomorrow or whatever they have to do. I then had to call them multiple times the following day and never got an update. Finally, right before they closed for the 2nd day they called me and said it did glitch for the technician and they will order a new USB. Hopefully that part comes in soon and fixes the problem but at least I now have it documented with Kia if it does not.

That's good news. The dealer called me today and have an appointment on march 20th to replace teh usb port. I'll keep you update if it fix the problem.
Although now something strange happens, suddenly it works perfectly for days, then it starts to disconnect and for a day or two it doesn't work. Then staarts to work perfectly for another few days. 🤷‍♂️
I hope the replacement of the usb port finally fix it.
