There are warnings in the manufacturer's use guides for the Carnival not to place anything on the dashboard in case the airbags there deploy and force anything on the dashboard into the faces of the driver or front seat passenger.
Are there any small spots on the dashboard which the air bags won't catch on? I have a Garmin DriveAssist 50 dashcam / GPS navigation system mounted semi-permanently directly above and just ahead of the steering wheel of my 2012 Elantra. That's an ideal location for me to be able to see it easily without looking off to my right, and also for my fingers to reach the devices controls without my needing to take hands off the wheel.

Can you share a photo? I can't exactly picture where you've got it mounted. Sounds like it's on the steering column.
