Different wait times for different dealers?(Canada)

Hi everyone. My family is in the middle of trying to buy a Carnival. i know the wait is quite long right now to get one custom ordered, so we called a lot of dealers in western canada trying to find out close to our desired specs.

during this (fruitless) search one dealership said they could get us our car in 60 to 90 days, with a small amount off of MSRP as well. every other dealership is telling us much longer waits, approx 7 to 9 months.

my main worry is the dealer is just feeding us a line to get our business. they also aren’t close to our home and another local dealer has agreed to match the MSRP discount.

the local dealer also read an email to me apparently from kia canada addressing the wait times and how it would likely be 7 to 9 month wait time.

so i’m torn with who to order from. time is of the essence for us. any advice? thanks in advance!

I'm not sure which province you are in but here in Ontario the sales are governed by OMVIC and they may be able to hold you to the contract. Make sure you read up on your rights prior to signing anything so you are not locked in. If they do not have one on the lot, I'd assume that you will not be getting one any time soon.

BC:
You mention it's not close to your house so it might be considered a "Distance Sale"

Alberta is worse:
The dealer can write their own deposit/agreement form and not use the "suggested one", make sure you read it all.

Make sure if you do buy it, put a delivery date on the contract and have them add if you don't get it by that time the deal is cancelled and you get your deposit back. If they don't want to do that then I'd walk away.

It likely depends what trim level you are looking for. LX/LX+/EX and maybe even EX+ 60-90 days could be possible... for the SX the 7-9 months is the wait. I have heard the same about the email from Kia Canada so as I have posted previously my June order of an SX is looking at a Feb/March delivery despite being told 8-12 weeks at the time of order.

I’m in Ontario and dealers are telling me it’s 6-8 months wait for most trims.
So far, it has been 37 weeks (tomorrow) since we ordered our 2022 SX Carnival in Mineral Blue in Southern Ontario. I was told by the dealership last week we should have a VIN # in January. I will believe it when I see it. Originally told 8012 weeks as well.

That is a LONG wait. Do you know if it will still be a 2022 by that point? I haven't heard when the 2023's are going to be released.

I am waiting for the 2023 model, news should trickle out in the next couple of weeks, I'd like to see what the trim changes are especially for the top trim; I would like to see it with the VIP seats swapped for the 8-seat flexible arrangement. I would pull the plug in a beat. I am curious to see how popular the top (in Canada) SX trim is, I just did a national search at Autotrader, out of the 62 new Carnivals on sale, 18 are SXs, 5 are EXs, 12 are LX+ and 25 are the base LXs, a whopping 1 is the penultimate EX+ (which I suspect folks are gravitating to because they do not want the VIP seats). Hope Kia is watching the buying habits and take a cue and put the features of the SX into the EX+ ( I don't mind paying a bit more for this) or better still, make the VIP seats a stand-alone option.
