If all the doors are closed and you have the fob on you press the black button on the driver / passenger door handle and it will lock the doors. (Or use the button on the fob)
That's correct: you can only lock if the key fob is with you.I didn’t have the fob, which was why I was trying to lock the doors without it. Can you only lock the car while in possession of the key fob?

There is no setting that disables the driver's side door button. Sounds like something isn't working properly. What happens when you have the key fob and the driver side door button doesn't lock or unlock the car but all the other buttons on the outside doors work? Is it a setting that I don't have set up or do I need to take it to the dealership to get it looked at?
I reviewed all my settings and there is no one that can control only one button. So, I will recommend to have it checked by the dealer. What happens when you have the key fob and the driver side door button doesn't lock or unlock the car but all the other buttons on the outside doors work? This is asinine, right? Or, said differently, is this believed to be intentional or is it an oversight/flaw/bug? As @Kook&beans mentioned, it does lock without the fob with the door is closed (i.e. when someone is inside to push the button), so it just doesn't lock with the door open, it seems. That's correct: you can only lock if the key fob is with you.
