There are always little things that manufacturers and dealers don't advertise that can be cool (or annoying) to discover after you have purchased a car. Let's use this thread to log all of the little hidden tips or features we find! I'll start:

1. The driver memory seat buttons also store the side-view mirror position.
2. When shifting to REVERSE, the side mirrors will tilt down to give you a better view of the curb/lines as you park. This only works though if the mirror adjustment toggle switch is on - by which I mean either the left or right mirror is currently selected. If set to the center position (off), then this feature wont activate.
3. To advance to the next song in a playlist, you have to press DOWN on the steering wheel toggle instead of UP. This just seems counter-intuitive and not consistent with previous Kia's I've owned.

Let us know what you've discovered!

The down to change songs is completely odd for sure. Does anyone know if each key fob can be set to an individuals seat setting and dashboard profile? I’m much taller than my wife and I would like the seat to go to my settings when I unlock with my key fob and hers to go to her settings with her fob. Our other cars do this

I plan on trying this tonight. Will let you know what I find out.

I’ve not been successful tying the key fob to the driver. If you figure out how to make it swap profiles that would be great.

I’ve also had really inconsistent results with the side doors automatically opening on approach with my key fob in pants pocket. Any tricks on this would be great. Back door no issues.

I don't think the key fobs can be linked to each user. They are not numbered like other brands I've seen and would make it nearly impossible to know which is which. Plus, there aren't any settings I've seen that would link them to a specific user. We'll just have to remember to press the seat memory selector every time we get in.

I discovered that the Carnival has an auto high beam light function, the car will turn the high beam lights on automatically when is darker than normal. I was quite impressed with that function honestly.

The button on the door-handle of the sliding doors is automatically disabled once the car is turned off for a certain period of time. You have to open the door by pulling on the handle once this happens. I discovered this because I park in my garage and don't lock the vehicle. I wanted to put something in the back seat one night and the door handle button wouldn't respond. I wonder if this is meant to save battery somehow?

EDIT: press the button multiple times to "wake" the door and it will activate again.

There is a removable panel inside the lower cubby (driver's side) behind the 3rd row that reveals a "secret" compartment. It looks like it has molding to hold specific items - like drink cans, but that wouldn't make sense, right? Anyone know what the hidden compartment is for?

Carnival Dealer Menu (Capture mode below pic)
For those with =>EX Larger display (In Canada, not sure about USA) you can access the dealer menu by going to Settings, General, System Info and turning your volume to 8, using the button on the steering wheel reduce it from 8 to 7 and press the place where the picture indicates below (it is just below the Home button), then reduce it to 3 and press in the same place and then reduce it to 1 and press one last time. You should get an option to enter a password, the password is 2400. This will get you into the dealer menu. There is an engineering menu as well but I haven't found it yet. (Note: Your screen may only have a single UPDATE button, I think this screen capture is from a telluride)

Edit: Don't mess with anything you don't understand (but I don't think you can do much).

330

Turn on Capture Mode

On the same screen you can setup "Capture mode", at the bottom of the screen press 5 times to the left of the "Update" button and then 7-10 times to the right, it will enable / disable capture mode which will let you capture screen shots and download them to a usb stick connected to the middle USB in the dash.

Mostly searching the web, there is a thread at
xda-developers
where they are trying to sideload apps but that's wayyy to risky for me. They also mention the engineering mode (around page 39-42) on the telluride but I can't make it work on the Carnival even with Capture Mode on
xda is the best! These guys will find a way to "hack" anything!

I'm just hoping to find a few things:
-Wireless Bluetooth Android Auto
-The ability to change the need to press down to go up in the radio stations / song list

Would be nice to have/change:
-Visible reverse camera view while driving
-Waze installed directly on unit
-Ability to change 2nd row chair position while driving (for passenger control, not driver)

Would be REALLY nice to have
-All camera feeds connected to recording device at all times (Parked included)
-Full control of head unit / software / updates

If the Head Unit can be "hacked" then all these may be possible. But until there is a factory reset option I wouldn't go too much further.

Nice list! From what I can tell, the infotainment basically runs a fork of Android, so there's likely a way to make some of the things you want happen. However, the limiting factor will be the relatively few people on xda with the skills to figure out how to make those things happen. The things you want to change probably require some form of reprogramming that is beyond what you or I could do through the on screen UI.

Ok, Engineering mode Warning, you can really screw stuff up in here, so ummm don't blame me, you've been warned

Turn ON Capture mode (bottom of THIS post ) (its a toggle, do the process to turn it on and off)
Then enter Dealer Mode (Top of the same post)
Then Press and hold the MEDIA button (not on screen, the one below the screen in the dash by the hazard)
Keep holding and there will be some foreign language (Korean?) text, possible warnings, show up
Once 3 or 4 of them have happened you can let go of the button and then Engineering mode will show up on its own.
This has loads of options, and testing. Still trying to work through them all.

Once you have it all worked out, you should start a tutorial thread walking us through the options.

Cool info on this thread. As with everyone else I can't stand the pressing down for next track. I think one of my biggest annoyance so far is if you start the car remote with your phone app the sensor to open the tailgate when you are within range with the key fob won't work. Why would they do that?
