How long did it take you to find your Carnival?

Looking to get a new car in the next two weeks. I'm looking at the LX seat or Ex, maybe an SX. I'm flexible on color and willing to drive a bit, most local dealerships only have 2-4 on their website (going to call this week).

Less than a few weeks. Ordered an SXP in Astra Blue from one dealership and was told it was a few months. Put down a deposit. A week later saw the same car with grey interior at another dealership in town (MN) and went and got it.

A few weeks after we put a deposit (in May) on an SPX that was in transit to the dealership.

That said, I just read a Facebook post that one dealership said Kia stopped production on EX SX (and I assume SXPs as well) because of shortage of tailgate component. I wasn't able to substantiate the information, but I know one thing to be true - these are tough times to try to extrapolate from existing trends what supply is going to look like now or in a few months.
I started my search back in April. Back then, I could've found and purchased the exact trim/color I own now on the same day, because every dealer had one on their lot. However, it took me nearly 2 months to decide this was the trim/color I wanted. At that point (late May), demand had peaked and you could only buy one by placing a deposit on inbound inventory, so that's what I did. When the car showed up, I purchased it before they had removed the plastic.

From what I've read, chip shortages will last till next year. I've decided to put in an order w/ an out-of-state dealer who's willing to sell at MSRP. Transport will cost another $1~$1.5k, but that's still less than what the local guys are charging, and I get exactly what I want.

Put a small deposit on mine about 3 weeks ago and waited for delivery. Picked it up this morning. Got the SX in Astra Blue and I'm in love with it. Leaving for a 3 week vacation this saturday with the family in it.

Forever. Like someone above said, the car I wanted was in stock everywhere in April, but by the time I decided I wanted the SX in Astra Blue (late May) it was gone entirely. Nobody in the metro area had any Carnivals in stock. I placed a deposit for an inbound one that matched my exact wants, and they said it'd be arriving in 2-3 days. It wasn't till 6 weeks later when I finally got it in. Worth it in the end!

Which city? Any markups by the dealer?

I was wondering where you purchased from? My local dealer has a $7k markup on an SXP. Looking to order an SX. Thanks for any info!

I ordered mine from Schaumburg Kia in Illinois, just outside of Chicago. I had to arrange transportation and there was quite a bit of back-and-forth w/ registration, but in the end, I saved about $5k-ish even with transportation, which was about $1600 to Calif. It did take a few months to get to arrive from Korea though. If you're not in a rush, I'd say go for it. Talk to Donny Chung and tell him Yui Lee sent you. He's a good guy, straight shooting. I don't see him on the website anymore, but here he is: Check out Donny Chung's reviews on DealerRater

Be careful about the Security feature for about $300. Not sure if you can get out of it, but I have yet to see the VIN etching anywhere. It'll show in the "window sticker". I was went ahead and just took that since it was still a much better than my local dealers, but I gotta contact Donny to find out what the hell it is exactly.

Oh, my guy has moved to a different dealership: Kia Dealer Palatine IL New & Used Cars for Sale near Arlington Heights IL - McGrath Arlington Kia
Here's his personal cell, which he said is ok to give out: 847-361-2884
Said they can order for MSRP.
Looking for my Carnival was a trip itself. Decided after Christmas to pull the trigger only to realize that any inventory that was shown to be at the dealer was already sold. I couldn't even find one to test drive anywhere in a 200-mile radius. I ended up wanting a White SXR with a Black interior. I did a search and found one in Florida and one in Billings Montana. I live in South Carolina and gave the Florida dealer a call. While I was on the phone he had a customer come from the street to test drive. I did give them my info to run credit, but they would wait until the order customer left. However, they purchased the Carnival. So now it was down to Billings MT. Now, remember these we the only 2 located in my color in the entire USA. The dealer wanted the 10K markup, but I wouldn't do it. However we talk over the next few days and on New Year's Eve they make us an offer of just 5K over the list, but we would have to come the next day so the paperwork could be complete as the last car sold that year. No paperwork or pickup of the car could be done so my wife and I got on a plane 6 hrs later and got to the dealer the next morning. We picked up the car and drove to Denver were she could get a flight home and I drove for the next 3 days to get the car home. It was a nice drive and used the lane keeping assist and adaptive cruise all the way home. (2400 miles.) Just to give you an idea how far you have to go to get what you want nowadays.

I totally understand. Back in 2011, I rented a car and drove to Dallas, TX to pick up a Camaro that matched my trim/color preference. Dropped off the rental and drove back in my new Camaro. It sucks putting that many miles on a car in the first week, but it really helps you to get to know the car.
