I really want to love this thing, I really, really do, and in fact, I need to, I need the space.

But coming off my Mazda CX-9, there is so many things about this vehicle that frustrate me to no end. I haven't found a solution to any of them, and hopeful someone here can. I'm desperate.

  • Locking the doors. Why do I need the fob in my pocket to lock a door? Sometimes I'll run to vehicle because I forgot to lock it but don't bring my fob, and it wont let me...why!!!!?? Why do all doors need to be closed for me to lock it? The lock button on the inside door (right near the window controls) doesn't ever do anything, I can never get it to lock with this button, what even is the function of this button?
  • I have been locked out of the vehicle when I have left it running, and no button pressing on the fob would do anything. Only way to get it to unlock was through the app, even though it said the car was unlocked through the app? So now I have a vehicle that I can't lock when I want it to, but locks when I don't?????? Gah!
  • The vehicle TURNED off when I was coming to a stop. Moving about 7 mph, all of sudden it gives me a warning saying "Engine not running, please move car to park". Had to stop the vehicle, put it in park, and start it back up again. This is a very worrisome issue.
  • I can't move forward or backwards on recorded stations from the steering wheel on Sirius XM recorded channels. How can this possibly be missed? I am constantly having to take my eyes off the road to use the touchscreen to do this, and I hate doing that. How is there not a control on the steering wheel to do this?
  • I have a drive full of M4A (itunes) files for music on a USB drive, but it always says "no supported files". Can this thing really not read M4A files? In 2022!!???
This thing just feels like such a step back from my Mazda even though the Mazda was 3 years older. Right now I feel Kia Engineers, especially those in charge of the infotainment system, need to take notes from the Mazda on how it's done. Everything is leaps and bounds better in the Mazda.

I don't mean to be so negative, but I just bought a brand new $50K vehicle that is nothing but frustrating and disappointing right now.

" I have been locked out of the vehicle when I have left it running, " Who locked you out , or how did it happen exactly?
No one! Stopped at Walmart quick to grab one thing, left the vehicle running. Came out, opened the back hatch which worked just fine, put my stuff in, closed hatch. Moved around to front driver door, nothing. Couldn’t open any doors or even the hatch now…???

That's scary. Good thing your phone was not inside. We might need a magnetic keyholder under the van. Thanks for the warning.

Well, it sounds like you definitely have some rare/unique issues with some of those electrical glitches and the engine shutting off. Sorry to hear it, as that’s frustrating as heck.

The lock button on the door should lock. Are you sure maybe you didn’t have one of the fobs in the car when you tried to lock it? That might be why.

Do the forward/back buttons work in other applications, just not XM?

As far as M4A files, not sure what to tell you there other than you are a very tiny percentage of the user base if that’s how you’re listening to music in 2022 so it doesn’t shock me that isn’t supported.

Keep taking your van to the dealer on those bigger issues and make sure they’re documented

I have a 2022 Carnival and I 100% agree that the door locks are a major issue (unfortunately, I think they would intentionally designed that way). It is impossible to lock the doors if any doors are open. This means you cannot open the driver door, hit the lock button on the door, and close it. It will not be locked. Similarly, I cannot lock the doors with the key fob until after the sliding doors have completed closing..... WHY KIA??? This is so frustrating! I get out of the car in the rain, then have to wait for my kids to finally push the button to close the doors. They run inside but I am still standing in the rain waiting for the power door to close before I can lock the doors. Consequently, I am constantly getting notifications on my phone that the doors are not lock, even when we fully thought they were locked. I have never had so many issues locking (and unlocking, which is a whole other story) a car in my life. We do not have any of these issues with our 2018 Kia Sportage. So why did Kia screw it up sooooo bad on the Carnival?

You can't press lock on the fob from a short distance away where you're dry?

Yes, but three things:
1. I don't know the range of the fob. If I park in the back of a lot and run into the store (out of the rain), is the car still in range?
2. If I can no longer see the car, I will not have visual confirmation that it is locked. I again, this is important to me because we find the car is regularly unlocked even when we know we pressed lock button.
3. It is just plain stupid that Kia won't let me lock the doors the same as any other car. At least give me the option in the vehicle settings.

Yeah, it seems like a weird thing (#3) for sure. I haven't noticed it in 6 months owning mine but now I want to check and see.

Are you sure it doesn’t lock. I ask because I have a 23 on order but currently have its older sister the 2015 Kia Sedona. I can press the lock button on the fob while the door is moving and once the door is closed it will lock. Have you attempted this? Curious.

What you described about your 2015 is the way it SHOULD work on the Carnival, but it 100% does not. If you press the lock button on the fob before the sliding door is completely closed, it just makes a long beep noise (I assume for the purpose of informing you that, "hey idiot the door is not shut yet and therefore I will not lock the doors. You may try again AFTER all doors are close.). There should at least be an option in the long list of settings you can adjust to change this but I have not found it and don't think it exists. But, I would love for someone to prove me wrong!

Hmmm, I'm talking about the lock button on the door on the inside, so I guess I do have my fob in my pocket when I'm trying to use that. How exactly is this to be used then, do I need to roll down the window, hold my fob outside of it, and THEN hit the lock button? :)

I didn't express the forward and back Sirius issue very well, I'm talking about moving forward and backward in TIME on the recorded stations. You have to use the screen itself to do that, which takes your eyes of the road. I just can't believe they didn't assign that feature to a steering wheel button.

Bummer about the M4A files, but you appear to be correct as a lot of newer vehicles are not supporting them. I'll just have to convert everything to FLAC.

Most modern cars won’t let you lock a door and then close it. It’s to prevent locking keys in your car.
My Honda sedan won’t even let you close the trunk. Example. My wife and I go somewhere, she doesn’t want to carry her purse. She wants to lock her purse in the trunk. The Honda literally won’t latch the trunk if a key is present in the trunk. 🤣

I suggest you make an appointment with the sales person you bought this through and review all of the procedures you're looks ng for. I have a 2022, I too don't like the door lock situation.

I understand this, but the Kia needs to find a better and maybe follow Mazda's lead. You can do whatever you want whenever you want with the locks, but if it senses a key in the car when the car has been locked and the last door is closed, it beeps and automatically unlocks the vehicle THEN.

What did the service department tell you when you brought the vehicle in for this issue?
