Hi All, one of the first things I do with every vehicle I purchase is upgrade the license plate lights to LED.... this is the first vehicle I have not been able to figure out how to do so. I removed the one screw holding the license plate light housing out and am able to pull down one side but unable to get to the actual bulb or remove the actual housing.

Has anyone had any luck? If anyone can figure this out I would greatly appreciate it. I fiddled around with it for 20 minutes.... Thanks!

LOL - some people just like the look of LED vs Incandescent. Others prefer the stupid low maintenance that LED's offer. You will basically never need to replace those bulbs for the life of ownership.

To the OP - did you check the owner's manual to see if there are any tips in there?

Good point - I did a quick glance and it looks like it has some basic instructions so I will give those a try and see if I have any luck! Thanks so much.

Got any tips? The instructions are pretty basic and do not list the bulb sizes. The covers don't pop off as easily as the manual makes it seem.
Sorry for my slow reply. They were a pain in the butt. The instructions are useless in the manual. I ended up using a very small flat head screwdriver to pry them... they have some very stubborn side tabs that keep them in there... luckily they are very strong and did not break.

how did you get the housing to pull out? I'm having trouble with the wires being really short and i cant reach the bulb to pull it out.
I used a very small flathead screwdriver to pry the housings down... the clips holding it in place were very strong/stubborn so you will have to use some force. The wires are really tiny so you may have to use some very gentle needle nose plyers to pull the bulb out... i wrapped a small microfiber towel around the bulb before prying them out. Luckily neither bulb broke. Once you get the bulb out its smooth sailing getting the new bulb in and pushing the cover back into place. Hope this helps!

I cannot for the life of me figure this out. I have also ran into the issue with the wires being too short to get the assembly out to change the bulb. I can’t imagine we’re suppose to pop off the clear lens on the assembly. I’m afraid to break it. Has anyone figured this out?

Just left the Kia Dealership. The only way to change those bulbs is by removing the Interior Trim on the liftgate. They said about 1/2 hour of Labor. $80. No thanks.
Sadly, that sounds easier than trying to pry out the bulb housing from the outside. The trim piece probably take 30 seconds to pop off with minimal tools. I might give that a try when the weather warms up a bit.
