I was scheduled to take delivery of a new Carnival today at a dealer in Michigan. Just received a call that KIA has placed a national stop sale order out and the dealer can't finish the transaction but the vehicle will still be held for me. The sales guy didn't know the reason why yet. No money has changed hands so no big deal...but sounds like possibly a safety issue as a national stop sale bulletin seems pretty drastic. Anyone know anything about this? I haven't been able to locate anything online.
sarjac, what trim do you have coming? There is a know problem in the SX/SXP with the 115V outlets not working, and no DVD player with the rear entertainment system. Hopefully it is a minor (?) issue like that.
Was going to be an SXP....but can't imagine a national stop sale order on something that isn't a safety issue....outlets not working...or dvd issues are certainly issues but not safety...unless fire hazard...guess we will wait and see....maybe the emergency is they realized they priced them too low
That is a bummer. I'll be checking with my dealer Monday (things move slower in Middle Georgia). There is nothing on the net about a recall. I wonder if Kia issued a TSB (Technical Service Bulletin) instead. That way it is all internal and nothing needs to be reported to the NHTSA.
If it's a fuel rail issue, I can't imagine how they would get past not issuing a recall. Depending on the severity (e.g. a manufacturing crack in the rail); that could be a stop and park it type scenario.
However, the law states the manufacturer must notify the owner of the vehicle of a recall within 60 days. That is a long time to be driving around with a fuel issue.
We called Kia Corporate again and would advise others to as well. The question to ask that will get your ticket escalated (like ours) is, "Is it safe to drive?". They can't or won't answer that question and will assign you an escalation case number. We are waiting a response from an escalation manager.
Different issue I know but can you good people in the USA let me know how long you had to wait to get your new Carnivals? I am in Australia and I'm having to wait 6 months to get mine. Just wanted to see if this is a local issue or not? Thanks Greg
Whoa! Mine was delayed twice, but it only took about a month to receive the vehicle. There are Carnivals on lots at dealers across the USA at the moment. Sorry to hear about your delay. It's a great car.
Thanks for your thoughts ...yes its a crap situation here as I think our market is deemed too small by KIA to get much stock. Pity but thats life I suppose. It will be sweet when I finally get to drive it!
