Old Kia badge on hood of 2022 US Carnival??

Was able to finally get my hands on a White SX this last weekend at my local dealership. Love the car so far. As we were about to leave the dealership I noticed that the hood was sporting the old badge. I asked our sales guy why it had the old badge, and he said that they weren't gonna use the new badge till next year. I was pretty skeptical... but was just excited to get the car so we left. When I got home I checked the Kia website, and pictures I had taken of other Carnivals we had seen in person, and sure enough they were all sporting the new Kia emblem on the hood.

I sent a message to Kia Customer Support, and chatted with them yesterday. They told me that they aren't sure what happened, and that it was definitely a mistake... but not a "defect" with the car. So they said that I would need to work with my dealership so that they could fix it for me. I'm still waiting to hear what the dealership wants to do... but curious if anyone else has seen this or got their new Carnival with the old badge on the hood. Everywhere else on the car has the new badges, just the hood is different. I know it's probably not a huge deal, but the new badge definitely looks cooler, and I would prefer to have that one... but at the same time I don't want the dealership to risk scratching the hood, or leaving some sort of discoloration by taking the old one off and just slapping the new one on. Anyone have any thoughts on what I should do? Should I push more on Kia and insist that this is a defect that they should fix since the car technically came with the incorrect part installed?

Personally I would push to get it fixed. Assuming you are garaging it or otherwise keeping it out from the sun, I wouldn’t worry about discoloration. Fairly easy to remove using mild heat and fishing line or dental floss but would have Kia corporate spearhead selecting the location and responsibility. Last thing you would want is a crooked or off center badge.

On second thought, I would tell Kia to ship me the right badge and ask for others on this forum to give some measurements and do it myself.

@Phantasm22 Yeah that's a good idea. I'd feel much more confident in my ability to do a thorough and accurate job. I think my biggest concern would just be if I did happen to screw something up, then it's totally on me at that point. But I don't think that would really be an issue. As long as the factory didn't do anything weird to put this emblem on. Looks like its just glued on, but from looking under the hood it doesn't appear to have the typical little prong things that normally go into the hood for lining it up. So not sure if they had to cut this emblem up to make it sit flush, or if this particular badge just doesn't have the prongs. I know they still use this emblem on the hoods of the Carnivals in Russia and stuff, so I guess they probably have emblems like this made specifically for the Carnivals. Part of me is just annoyed by the principle of the matter. Someone in the Kia factory either knowingly or accidentally put the wrong badge on. But Kia Corporate is saying that it's the dealership's fault because they didn't catch it when the vehicle arrived, and not a defect, so they won't be the ones to cover it. But to me this should be considered a defect, and I wish Kia corporate was doing more to help get it sorted out. Instead they're more saying "Yeah its wrong, but not a defect, so we'll help you make it right, but it's gotta be sorted out with your dealer and they're gonna have to pay for it". Which then just puts me in the middle of going back and forth on everything. And ultimately the dealership is probably gonna wanna go the cheapest and most convenient route haha.

Hope you get it sorted. I would think they would just send you the new badge given the cost factor is likely less than $50. The new one is definitely only adhered as some others have already debadged theirs. If they retrofitted an old one and it had pins, then they probably had to remove them.
Btw does your VIN show up as a US/NA model? I was wondering if you may have inadvertently received one for another country. Might check the other places the VIN is stored as well.
Yeah I was kinda wondering that as well, but I'm pretty sure it's a US version. The ones in other countries do have the old emblems, but all over, so on the hood, steering wheel, trunk, etc. Whereas mine is just the old one on the hood, but everywhere else is correct. The shape of the hoods appears to be the same as ones in Russia and stuff, so maybe I mistakenly got a hood from a non-US version or something. Or maybe they had a shortage of US emblems and just used whatever they could find, but that seems like it would be a bad practice to use the wrong part intentionally just to push cars through. 🤷‍♂️

Talk to your dealer. The sales guy is an idiot who knows nothing. How can a car with NEW badges on the back, wheels, and interior, not get the new badges until next year?
Check with the service department.

Haha yeah when I first started looking for a Carnival a month and a half ago I quickly started realizing that most of these sales guys know absolutely nothing about these cars. I mean I get that they're new, and most probably don't have a lot on hand... but I would think that they should know something like that. I had to stop by the dealer a few days ago to drop off the title of the car we traded in, so I briefly mentioned the badge thing to the sales manager and he shrugged and said "Yeah I dunno, must have been an early production model that still had the old badges"... but even the pre-production models that everyone was using for reviews had the new badges on them... so I don't think that was the case either ha.

And yeah, I've been trying to get ahold of the manager for either sales or service, and neither will answer my call or respond to my voicemails... guess I'm just gonna have to drive out there and track them down haha.

Check the month and year of manufacture on the sticker inside the front door and make sure you haven't been sold a demo model.
I wonder if the hood was damaged in transport and this was the replacement? This would bug the S÷=t out of me.
Did you ever remove the emblem? I'm curious if there are any factory holes under the emblem. Mine had the new emblem but holes under the emblem.
