Has anyone had this engine code? I was driving down the road from my house after just leaving my driveway and this code came up. My car also felt like it lost power, it wouldn't drive over 13mph. I got it to a nearby parking lot, turned it off then on again. The engine light stayed on, but the car drove normal again.The dealership can't replicate the issue, nor can they get the code to come back after they reset it. It was the coldest day of the year so far, not sure if that was partially the issue? The code itself is a Throttle Actuator Control code which looks like a sensor issue. The dealership says the code is too general to go off of and says this happens sometimes if the gas cap isn't closed all the way and suggests I drive it another 50 miles to see if the code clears next time, but it wouldn't go over 13mph last time so that sounds like an odd suggestion. In fact when it happened originally they suggested I get it towed and not drive it. So, I'm flummoxed. Anyone have a similar issue? Car is under 8k miles, and has had it's 1st maintenance and oil change. Also, I had not just filled my gas tank, it was at about half and I fill at close to empty.

came across you post, funny enough i had the exact issue you had, lost power middle of the road on Christmas eve, roadside came to get it us. the throttle actuator is also my issue. i pick my van up the following tuesday, and was explained that there was possible moisture getting in and around the plate and it froze. also was a -18 C day ( live in canada). apparently they cleaned it all out and they said shouldnt have a issue anymore. well no joke Friday Dec 31 (dealer closed again) i turn on the van (stutters) and right off the bat the check engine dings and i didnt even leave my driveway. so all weekend without a vehcile. Calling this morning again to deal with this. I am getting frustrated as well because i got less then 10,000km and already issues. only owned the car since end of august.

I had the same thing happen as you. The initial issue was Christmas Eve. It happened again yesterday. Kia wants another look, so I have to drive it in. Last time it got towed. It drove ok yesterday with it on, but I don't know if that's because the remote start warmed the engine enough this time. I hadn't used it last time.

Just an update sitting at my dealer now, they stuck a camera down the throttle body this time, and showed me a picture, there is actually ice build up. With my area where I live, we are now only just getting below freezing temps, and this is why there is a issue. Summer and fall wouldn’t have caused a problem. Apparently this is from the factory and somehow moisture got in when Assembling. my service tech is thinking this will be a recall in the upcoming days/weeks. Solution is apperntly a Silcone or lube on the lid of the throttle body that doesn’t allow the moisture to freeze.

hoping it is fixed indefinitely this time,just Waiting now to see if I’m getting reimbursed from a rental I had for 5 days while they were closed of 760$.

I just got this code today on my car and my car only has 1600 miles on it but can’t get an appointment for two weeks so far has been driving normal no loss of power yet

I have had same issue last Friday(Jan 7,2022) it was -24 celcius Had to get the van towed as I could not get more than 15km/h. They said there was a pinched wire near the throttle box and they fixed it. Yesterday it was -25 and the engine light came back on. I was lucky this time as I was able to make it to the dealership. They plugged it in and again it was same code as last week, it was related to the throttle body. There were 2 Carnival with same issue at the dealer that morning. Today the dealership called to advise that they had done a lot of tests as per KiaTech and I was told that there were a large amount of Carnivals in Quebec with same issue. They were told not to do anything as of yet. KIA wants to investigate this further before they start changing parts. Biggest issue is that my $50K+ vehicle cannot be driven if it's too cold outside. Hope they can find a solution quickly. I guess these vehicles were not made for the North American winters.

So far this is what they have done the second time it went in. There was a master ticket opened with Kia Tech. I'm in northern Vermont, so not far from the Quebec border and have had similar temps. They had a master tech drive it to his house overnight to make sure it was OK before releasing it from the shop. I don't feel like the description on paper matched what I was told over the phone, because they mentioned something about a Throttle Body Connector being added and a stabilizer fluid or lube being applied. So, still not sure exactly what they did. It hasn't had another issue yet even with the freezing temps.

I live in upstate Ny about 4 hours from Canada was first time that it got really cold here this season the check engine light came on and used a reader to find the p2118 code but a day and a half later the check engine light went off just been waiting to see if it comes back on so far it’s been over a week and no light yet

Has your light cleared? The cold here in Northwest Pa has also given us the same issue.

UPDATE: Our van was brought in for the 3rd time with the same code again Jan 11th. Dealer claimed it was "safe to drive" however i don't even leave the driveway and the code is popping up,( how is that safe?) along with now a massive engine vibration. I contacted Transport Canada twice (filed a online report, as well as phoned to talk to someone) The transport Canada guy on phone was super helpful. He stated that if the dealer says its safe to drive, request that in writing on the work order. The biggest issue is i have been fighting weeks on end since this first happened on Christmas eve and the dealer refuses to do anything, which means that every time i bring it in i am without a vehicle. In there eyes i don't qualify for a rental because either work needs to be done or a part is on backorder. Of which there is no fix (at this time)
It is a 50K vehicle sitting at the garage for days with apparently according to my dealer a bucket of unknowns. also the customer service is just beyond me.
So i requested the following day (still without a car to get to work) that the service manger write and sign stating he said the vehicle with the engine light is in fact safe to drive. His response was exactly what i needed "its illegal to write that it is safe because there is a fault code in engine which misfires and the plate gets stuck" <which means its not safe.
So I stated i was in contact with transport Canada and now there looking into this matter as obviously its a road hazard if you loose acceleration. I also said i need to rental. So he said give him till end of day.
So I then called Kia Canada and there tone really changed when i expressed transport Canada advised me not to drive the car, also according to the man i spoke with at Kia Canada if i drive the vehicle with the check engine light on and more issues happen, my warranty will be void. Kia Canada finally stated to me after all my complaints with the dealer and this van that they would be in contact with my dealer. so finally after HOURS and Days making calls I have a rental sitting in my driveway that Thursday afternoon. 48 plus hours with no vehicle. Return on Rental is Feb 11th. So my dealer says kia Canada is working on a fix. (i have high hopes for Feb 11th)
My advise. Don't drive the van. Fight with Kia and fight with the dealer. Its not like we all bought a 6$ pair of socks. Kia needs to get there shit together and find a fix for this van.

light was on 3 weeks ago then went off a day and a half later now a day before my appointment it came back on good thing I didn’t cancel the appointment and it was 36 degrees yesterday when it came on and now it’s 4 degrees and only going to be 8 degrees tomorrow so hopefully they can figure this out in the morning

I have the P2118 code as well, which showed up on Kia Access app. Parked outside last night and cold in Chicago area. Engine light was on and Carnival was in limp mode. Towed to dealer by Kia Roadside Assistance. Will post once I hear from dealer on repair.

Follow up to dealer visit. When speaking with dealer service, they mentioned that they did an update so the van doesn’t go into limp mode (not mentioned on receipt) if the code resurfaces. Appears Kia is working on software update to fix this issue. Hopefully it comes soon.

I have had this issue 3 times already since January 7th, 2022. Last time, at the KIA dealership, they took the throttle body apart and the humidity inside is freezing when cold. They took apart, let it warm up, cleaned it all up. put it be up and no issues since. Dealer said KIA had on older models(Sedona) a line going through with anitfreeze and there were no issues. On this new model, they don't run that line anymore. KIA is apparently working on a solution. I say if it didn't have any issue when the line of anti freeze was going through, get a line of anti freeze to go through again. Seems pretty simple to me. But then again, I am not an ENGINEER......
I really is upsetting to purchase an $50K+ vehicle and it keeps breaking down because of this. All they say is: We're working on it.....

My check engine light came on again today was already taken to dealer last time it went on and they checked everything and cleared the engine light said the throttle body looked ok and that it was driving ok now since it was cold yesterday and warm today I assume the light came on for same reason since it’s Sunday i took it to the auto parts store and it was the p2118 code again but when I drove it this morning it wasn’t getting any power I had to floor it to get any power was in lag mode and my rpm’s weren’t going was staying at 4000rpm wasn’t shifting properly and was bucking at times when it would decide to change gears made an appointment with car dealer online but will have to call tomorrow to see if I can get a loner till my appointment cause it’s really not drivable and not sure if the ecu update is out yet to fix the problem
