I HATE the fact that Kia will not let me lock the Carnival's doors unless all doors are shut. This means I cannot push the lock button on the driver's door as I am getting out and I cannot lock the doors while I am waiting for the sliding doors to close. I find both of these things obnoxious because even after a year of owners my wife and I can almost never remember to lock the doors. If it was not for the Kia app always notifying me that the doors were left unlock, our van would never get lock at all. I have never had this issue with any other vehicle, so I just wanted to poll the Carnival Community and see if anyone else is struggling like us or are we the only ones who just can't seem to lock the doors.

This is our first vehicle with sliding doors, so yeah, waiting the extra 3 seconds for the doors to close before locking does feel more painful than my swinging door vehicles. However, the key fob's shape makes it super easy to find the lock button without taking it out of my pocket, so doors get locked as I walk away and after I hear the "click" of the sliding door.

The problem is with push button keyless ignition, the key I never touch the key that is buried in my pocket. I am also ofter lugging a heavy car seat with a baby in it. When it is cold and/or rainy, I just want to grab her and go, not stand by the driver door waiting for the sliding door to close so that I can press the lock button on the outside door handle.

This is the first vehicle that I've owned that will not let you lock the doors while getting out of the car. But that's only part of my frustration.

As a use case, I went out to warm up the van while also putting some items in the back and there was no amount of combinations that I could simply lock the doors while keeping the car running. Ideally, I should be able to lock the doors and walk away with the van running; return, unlock the doors, load more things in, and repeat. Instead I'm forced to either turn off the van to lock the doors, or leave the van unlocked with it running, or some silly combination of remote starting with its own limitations.

I may try out the emergency key to see if that allows me to lock the door while it's running but that's a ridiculous hack.
