Hi guys, I put a deposit down on a 22' carnival Sx roughly back in early June. Still have not heard anything about a Vin number being assigned, or know what the wait time is. The salesman told us maybe a week or 2 more to get the Vin # back in late June when I asked for an update. I need a minivan sooner than later, so any insight would be appreciated if anyone knows something I don't about wait times, thank you!

Edit:
I just realized you were probably talking about placing a deposit for a factory order. If it is a factory order, then don't hold your breath. I do not know anyone who has placed an order with the factory in 2021 and has taken delivery.

Run away from this dealer. They should only be accepting deposits on verified incoming inventory. Without a VIN in the system, your deposit isn't really holding anything. They are just using the deposit to keep you from buying somewhere else until something finally shows up.

I was thinking about asking for my deposit back, but this is my first time buying a new car and I don't know the consequences of that request would be. Anything I should watch out or be prepared for?

If you used your credit card for the deposit then you should have no problem getting your deposit back. If the dealership isn't willing to return your money then your credit card company should be able to help. If you used a check or other form of payment, it could be a lot more difficult if the dealer isn't willing to work with you.

If you placed a factory order, then your deposit should be refundable if no VIN was assigned. Just call the dealer and find out.
