The model used to demonstrate this is not the same as the Kia Carnival, but the mechanism shown is exactly the same.
When I tried this at the dealership the plastic keyhole cover on the rear end of the handle popped off & flew up in the air 2 feet. I didn't have a finger on this portion, which is only held in place by some small plastic tabs. The brass key releases half of the mechanism, and pulling the handle out a bit released the other half, so you may well cause the cover to fly if it's not restrained a bit.
You should practice this a couple of times before you might actually need it.
