So, it just barely made it a year, I wasn't on the highway or behind a truck, I was at the entrance of a Car wash and I heard a loud click (That's the only time I heard a noise that I could associate with the glass). The crack happened right at the bottom of the windshield and was mostly invisible / covered by the wipers. I woke up the next day and it was halfway up the windshield and started to branch out. It has since started crossing the windshield across the mid point.

I had just called my insurance a week before and reduced my deductible to $0 from $500... Like they are going to believe this.

Called Kia, asked for a quote on the replacement, with labour, the service advisor called back 2 hours later to tell me it would be $3992.00 (You read that correctly)
Holy crap...
I called aftermarket places and no one seems to be able to get this windshield so I might be stuck :(
So expensive!!! That's nuts!

Yeah must be because of the “acoustic windshield” which has layers of special material that sound deaden. So definitely not a normal windshield and probably not many aftermarket options if any. Crazy to hear it’s that much tho!

I just got off the phone with an after market glass company, he said it would be $1200 - $1500 but he was not able to get the glass and has had another back order in his system for over a month now for the same one.
$4k is horrible, I agree, and it makes me look at my dealership differently. Non warranty repairs will probably not end up in their shop.

I wouldn’t recommend aftermarket. There is a reason why it’s so much cheaper. You lose the acoustic dampening and they tend to be not be as strong and robust as OEM. On my Subaru, after replacing with aftermarket, I was going through new windshields every year (commuting 22k miles/yr). I expressed my displeasure with the insurance company and they pushed through getting an OEM installed. Since then, I’ve not had a single issue. When I talked to the installer, he admitted that the quality on aftermarket just isn’t there otherwise car manufacturers would use the aftermarket windshields themselves.

There is no "aftermarket" glass available for the Carnival yet, it all has to be Kia glass. I mentioned "after market glass company" but should probably said 3rd party glass repair / windshield replacement company.

Best of luck to you. We went through this fiasco about a year ago and had to have a KIA OEM windshield shipped across the coast for our install. Luckily, we had a tremendous installer and couldn’t have been happier with the end result.

Same thing happened to me - window cracked at about 11 months of ownership and grew to about 3 foot in length (I guess that'd be a meter for you, canuck) within a day.

I got mine replaced at the dealership for about $1200 USD, which included some sort of moulding and the cameras to be recalibrated (I have the SX).

Wow! I just checked with Safelite AutoGlass here in US and they quoted 959 USD (without Insurance) to replace the windshield. I don't know if Safelite is present in Canada but 4000 CAD for the windshield is outrageous.
I have the same issue, and called Safelite. The windshield Safelite would be putting in, while acoustic, is not a Kia-made windshield (so, aftermarket).

Here is a reply I got from SafeLite regarding replacing my 2022 Carnival SXP windshield (when I asked if it was aftermarket or Kia glass):
Safelite AutoGlass

The part on your order is an acoustic interlayer part, but is not from Kia. If that is what you prefer, we suggest you contact Farmers to ensure they will cover the cost.

I did eventually leave the dealership to get my windshield replaced, I'm still amazed at the cost though (in CAD):
Bottle Sleeve Drinkware Eyelash Rectangle

This was from Speedy in Canada, I'll use them in the future too.

Those in the US, there may be a class action to do with windshields just being faulty.

We have the same issue with our 2022 SX in Canada, but I got in the vehicle, and my daughter in the back asked what was the crack on the windshield. It was literally parked overnight, and a crack developed. Is there a reason this couldn't be covered under warrantee? This is obviously a manufacturing defect. Glass shouldn't crack on it's own without any damage. I suspect it might be from the heating element in the windshield causing a part of the windshield to heat up faster, but I don't know. Right now, it's with our local Kia dealership, and they are going to Kia Canada about it to see about warrantee replacement. We got a quote from a local company, which was around $900... So I'm wondering why that quote was so low, considering what I'm seeing elsewhere in Canada!
